Many Fragrances Contain Harmful Toxins, but There are Healthy Alternatives

Have you ever walked onto an elevator and the scent of someone's perfume is so overwhelming it almost makes you gag? We've all been there at some point or another. The truth is, a lot of the fragrances people wear, purchased from the department store counters, are full of harmful chemicals. Very few of these chemicals contain natural or plant extracts. Instead, they are manufactured with synthetic ingredients by companies with an eye more on the bottom line than your health. In fact, many of these fragrances are just downright no good for you.

A recent article in Scientific American stated:

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) reports that, while many popular perfumes, colognes and body sprays contain trace amounts of natural essences, they also typically contain a dozen or more potentially hazardous synthetic chemicals, some of which are derived from petroleum.

That’s right! Many of the most popular fragrances on the market contain chemicals that can hazardous to your health.

Want to find out exactly what’s in these popular fragrances? You can forget that, because a number of companies are allowed to keep hidden many of the ingredients they use, primarily for the purpose of maintaining their “trade secrets.”

The good news is that there are several companies making fragrances that significantly better for you. They contain all-natural plant extracts, have a light touch and are not at all overpowering to one’s sense of smell.  A fragrance such as Summer Days is light but very effective. It’s pleasant and attracts attention, but is also soothing to the senses,

Every user of perfume or cologne should know exactly what ingredients are being used in the fragrance before you apply it to your neck or wrists.  After all, it’s your health – and everyone’s nose - that’s at stake.
